This comprehensive durable plastic card serves as a quick reference guide for recognizing signs of drug or alcohol impairment, particularly during roadside assessments or initial evaluations. Its pocket size is user-friendly allowing personnel to make informed decisions based on physical symptoms of being under the influence of controlled substances and or alcohol.  The DAR card has a Graphic Pupilometer to assist in determining if someone is impaired.

The DAR card focuses the 7-Step Process allowing personnel valuable insights into a subject’s level of impairment.  The 7-Step Process:

  1. Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) –  Involuntary jerking of the eyes as they move to the side.
  2. Vertical Gaze Nystagmus (VGN) – Eye movement when the subject looks up and down.
  3. Lack of Convergence (LOC) – Ability to converge – bringing both eyes together to focus on a single point or object.
  4. Pulse – Normal ranges vs elevated or lowered range depending on type of drug use
  5. Romberg Stand – Evaluates a subject’s balance and coordination for 30 seconds estimation.
  6. Pupillary Comparison – Pupil size with different light can indicate certain drugs
  7. Pupillary Reaction – Normal, Slow, Minimal Rebound Dilation.
